Ceramic Braces

1. A square or band is loose or missing

If a square (bracket)  or band (metal ring) is loose remove it if you can. Place wax, BraceEze or soft sugar-free gum over if it irritates the mouth, and clean well around it. Call us during office hours to book an appointment for a repair.

2. The wire is sharp, has come out, or is broken

Place wax, BraceEze, or soft sugar-free gum over any poking sharp end.  If this doesn't help and you can, gently pull a broken wire out. Call to book an appointment for a repair.

3. Getting an ulcer

Place wax, BraceEze, or soft sugar-free gum over any part of the brace that is causing the irritation. If this doesn't help call for an appointment. In the meantime rinse the area twice daily using an antiseptic mouthwash such as Corsodyl.

4. Painful or loose teeth

It is normal to experience sore teeth during the treatment. It is also normal that the teeth become loose- it's the only way that they will move. Teeth will usually be tender for about a week after each visit to adjust the brace.

Take a painkiller to help and continue to chew as normal. If you have severe pain and more than a week has gone by- please contact us for an appointment.

5. Pain when wearing elastic rubber bands

Wearing elastics will cause sore teeth when you start wearing them. Once the teeth begin to move, this soreness will go away (after around 3-4 days). Continue to wear the rubber bands during this initial period of soreness and take pain killers if necessary. If you have severe pain and more than a week has gone by- please contact us for an appointment.

6. Missing modules

Modules are the clear elastic ties that are placed around the brackets of your braces. a tooth can move away from the wire if a module is missing. Call us during office hours to book an appointment to replace the missing modules.

7. Gaps are appearing between the teeth

It is normal for gaps to appear between your teeth during the treatment. We will close these gaps before the end of your treatment.
